Veteran Broadcaster Chuck Smith Retires After 43 Years in Media

Chuck Smith has been News Director / Producer and Morning Edition - Local Newscast Host and NPR COntributor for Red River Radio for more than 7 years.

Last Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 was Chuck Smith's final newscast at Red River Radio as he retires after 43 years working in radio, television, and various media. Dozens gathered in a special after hours reception to celebrate Chuck's many years' service as a journalist and broadcaster to the community. Chuck began his broadcast career in 1978 at radio stations KHPA-FM / KTPA-AM in Hope-Prescott, Arkansas. In 1979 he was selected from dozens of applicants to be a co-host / producer for the groundbreaking local show "PM MAGAZINE" at KSLA-TV 12 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Chuck Smith brings more than 30 years' broadcast and media experience to Red River Radio. He began his career as a radio news reporter and transitioned to television journalism and newsmagazine production. Chuck studied mass communications at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and motion picture / television production at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has also taught writing for television at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina and video / film production at Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport.
