Henry Whitehorn Wins Do-Over Election in Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Race

Democratic candidate Henry Whitehorn got 53 percent of the vote in Saturday's election in the race for Caddo Parish sheriff.

Four months after his disputed one-vote victory was tossed by the courts in the race to be the next sheriff in Caddo Parish, Henry Whitehorn won decisively in the do-over election.
Whitehorn, the Democratic candidate and career law enforcement officer received 53% of the vote in Saturday's election. He will become the parish's first Black sheriff.
Returns show he defeated Republican John Nickelson, this time by more than 4,000 votes. Whitehorn is a former head of the Louisiana State Police, former Shreveport police chief, and a retired U.S. Marshal. He won by a single vote in the November 18, 2023 election. But the courts ordered a new election after finding evidence of nearly a dozen illegal votes that were counted in the original total. That included two people who voted twice.
Sheriff-elect Whitehorn takes office on July 1.
