ARK SUPREME COURT - Earlier this week Arkansas Governor Sara Huckabee Sanders held a press conference announcing a replacement for a vacated seat on the Arkansas Supreme Court. Cody Hiland is a former federal prosecutor and also served on Huckabee’s election campaign and will fill the vacancy on the state’s high court which was previously held by Associate Justice Robin Wynne who passed away suddenly last month.

“Cody comes from the same mold as some of the finest jurors we have in the country today, the same legal minds who are finally bringing back strict originalism to our courts,” Sanders said. “This is the first time Arkansas Supreme Court will have a conservative majority and I know it will have the same effect on our state as it has had on our country.”

Hiland also was the head of the state Republican Party and in 2017 was appointed by former President Donald Trump as U.S. Attorney for Arkansas’ Eastern District, acknowledged the late Justice Wynne in accepting his new role.

Cody Hiland is chair of the Arkansas Republican Party and a former federal prosecutor.

“So it is in many respects a solemn day. And while we acknowledge the loss, at the same time acknowledge we that have to engage in the sobering and serious responsibility of fulfilling the legal obligations necessary to move forward with the court’s business,” Hiland said.

Hiland will serve on the high court until the end of next year but will be prohibited from running for a full term in his same seat on the Supreme Court. However theoretically he could run for another position on the court.
