The New Orleans Democrat has respresented Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District since 2011. Richmond says he will be able to help Louisiana and other Southern states as a senior White House adviser when Joe Biden assumes the presidency.
"I get to take my Louisiana experience with me to the White House to make sure that people understand it, our problems," Richmond said," and I don't have to talk with a southern accent to get it done."
Richmond said he will leave Congress in January to assume his new role in the White House. According to media reports Two Louisiana Republican colleagues-- Representative Garret Graves and Senator Bill Cassidy have acknowledged that Richmond's move could benefit Louisiana although their statements also reflected President Donald Trump's refusal to concede the recent presidential race.
