HOUSE JUDICIARY TO FOCUS ON IMPEACHMENT - Congressmen Mike Johnson is a Republican and represents Louisiana's 4th Congressional District with Shreveport-Bossier City as its population hub. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and will be front and center during the next phase of the impeachment hearing this week.According to the Shreveport Times -- Johnson has defended President Trump ahead of this week's hearing, calling the process a "charade."
A little over a week ago, Johnson spoke at length with NPR’s Steve Innskeep regarding the conclusion of the first public phase of the impeachment inquiry. Here’s a short sample of what he had to say regarding witness testimony.
" In quick summary - two weeks now of open hearings, 12 witnesses and no bombshell," Johnson explained. "There's been no testimony affirming bribery or extortion. There's been a whole lot of readily admitted presumption and assumption and opinion."
The House investigation launched by Democrats seeks to determine whether President Donald Trump threatened to withhold $400 million in military aid to Ukraine unless that country moved forward with investigations the president sought that could help him politically. During this next phase – The House Judiciary will outline the law, Constitution and debate whether the president committed impeachable offenses. Louisiana's only Democratic Congressman Cedric Richmond is also on House Judiciary and represents Louisiana's 2nd Congressional District, which includes most of New Orleans.
