Dream Week Celebrates MLK Legacy at Centenary College

DREAM WEEK at CENTENARY COLLEGE - The 10th annual Dream Week at Centenary College of Louisiana kicks off Monday in celebration of the life and legacy of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This annual event is focused on community service as well as special events throughout the week which will conclude  Saturday, Jan. 2oth.

Kaylan Walker is Centenary's director of community engagement and explained the various events scheduled for this year's Dream Week.  "It's a listing of six programming events starting on MOnday, Martin Luther King, Jr. day and lasting through Saturday. Monday we start with a Martin Luther King 'service day' in which we will go out to six sites in Shreveport and do service."  Other activities and events planned for the week include a moderator-led discussion on

"making the dream a reality" and later in the week a special screening of the Shreveport civil rights documentary Beyond Galilee, conversations with local civil rights activists, and a performance by Mahogany Ensemble Theatre."

Chuck Smith brings more than 30 years' broadcast and media experience to Red River Radio. He began his career as a radio news reporter and transitioned to television journalism and newsmagazine production. Chuck studied mass communications at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and motion picture / television production at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has also taught writing for television at York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina and video / film production at Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport.
