LSUS Pioneer Day Takes Us Back In Time This Saturday

The Pioneer Heritage Center located on LSUS campus is holding its Pioneer Day this Saturday. It promises  a fun time to see craftsmen at work, it’s also an excellent way to engage with Louisiana history.  I visited with Pioneer Heritage Center’s director: Marty Young to learn more.  “It’s just a fun thing,” said Young, “you can take an hour, hour-and-a-half out of your day and stop by to see us.” Pioneer Day initially began 21 years ago as an independent study put on by LSUS students in conjunction with the Heritage Center staff. Young, who was an undergraduate at the time, actually volunteered the first few years it was held before eventually being employed by the Heritage Center and taking over the planning of the event himself.   In addition to watching craftsman and women at work,  food will be available and six of the buildings at the center will be open and available for tours. Several of them have been recently restored, and quite a few boast new items.   FOR MORE INFORMATION:
