SALES TAX STREAMLINING  & MODERNIZATION COMMISSION:  You might not think it matters how sales tax is collected in Louisiana but according to some public officials… who does the collecting and where it’s collected does matter. In Baton Rouge, the Sales Tax Streamlining Commission has been in meetings and is nearly ready to release their recommendations on sales tax exclusions and exemptions, but they seem to have reached an impasse on another aspect of streamlining.   Dawn Starns with the National Federation of Business favors a centralized sales tax collection system.  Dan Garret with the State Police Jury Association felt local parishes are better served by collecting taxes locally.
