The 85th Texas State Legislature convened in Austin Tuesday, Jan. 10th and one of the first orders of business was to re-elect Representative Joe Straus (R) of San Antonio as Speaker.  Straus was unanimously re-elected by house members and sworn in.  Afterward he addressed the chamber and offered some thoughts on issues before the 2017 session including a so-called: "Bathroom Bill" similar to what North Carolina legislature passed last year.  Also he shared thoughts on problems facing education and foster care in the Lone Star State.
