Metropolitan Opera: Lehár’s The Merry Widow

Airs Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 12 noon. The 2017-18 Metropolitan Opera broadcast season continues with a live broadcast of Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow. Susan Graham stars in her acclaimed interpretation of the title role as the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari, opposite Paul Groves as her commitment-phobic former lover, Danilo. Sir Thomas Allen sings the role of Baron Zeta, determined to play matchmaker while unaware that he is in danger of losing his own wife, Valencienne, to the dashing Camille de Rosillon, sung respectively by Andriana Chuchman and Taylor Stayton. Ward Stare conducts in his network broadcast debut. The Met’s production is by Tony Award-winning choreographer and director Susan Stroman. The Merry Widow will be heard live over Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 12:00 noon. CT on Saturday, December 30.
