Two Opera Southwest productions feature in the 2019 WFMT Radio Network Opera Series – the New Mexico state premiere of Bellini’s Norma, from April 2018, and a much-awaited performance of Giovanni Bottesini’s little-known work, Alì Babà. This week we hear Norma by Vincenzo Bellini.

This week the American Opera Series from WFMT offers you the Opera Southwest Orchestra and Chorus' production of Gioachino Rossini's Guillaume Tell (William Tell) starring Sean Anderson as Guillaume Tell, Claudia Chapa as Hedwige, Sharin Apostolou as Jemmy, Caroline Worra as Mathilde, and Matthew Vickers as Arnold Melcthal. This production aslo features Justin Hopkins, Jeffrey Beruan, Hans Tashjian, Xavier Prado Caceres, and Joseph Cordova. The Opera Southwest Orchestra and Chorus are under the direction of Anthony Barrese.

This week the American Opera series from WFMT continues with a production by Opera Southwest of Franco Faccio's Amleto starring Alex Richardson as Amleto and Shannon De Vine as Claudio, with Matthew Curran as Polonio, Joseph Hubbard as Orazio, Paul Bower as Marcello, Javier Gonzalez as Laerte, Abla Lynn Hamza as Ofelia, and Caroline Worra as Geltrude. This production also features Jeff Beruan, Paul Bower, Jonathan Charles Tay, Heather Youngquist, Jeffrey Beruan, and Matthew Curran.

The American Opera Series from WFMT continues with Opera Southwest and a production of Gioacchino Rossini's Tancredi starring Heather Johnson as Tancredi, Lindsay Ohse as Amenaide, Heath Huberg as Argirio, Matthew Curran as Orbazzano, Madelyn Wanner as Isaura, and Chelsea Duval-Major as Roggiero. Stage direction provided by David Bartholemew with Kristin Ditlow as chorus master and the Opera Southwest Orchestra and Chorus are under the direction of Anthony Barrese.

Airs Saturday, November 28, at 12 noon. Originally premiered in 1865 in Genoa and then performed again in 1871 in Milan, Franco Faccio’s Amleto (Hamlet) was thought lost for over 135 years. Opera Southwest’s artistic director, Anthony Barrese, has spent nearly a decade in libraries and the Ricordi archives recovering the work from a microfilm of the composers autograph.
