Trump Congratulates Edwards On Louisiana's Handling Of Covid-19

COMPLIMENTS THE GOVERNOR -  President Donald Trump  had a meeting at the Whitehouse with Louisiana  Governor  John Bel Edwards yesterday.  The  Republican  President  paid  the  Democratic Governor some compliments on how well Louisiana has handled the Covid-19 outbreak.

"I just wanted to congratulate you," Trump said. "It's (Louisiana) a very favored place of mine, it's a great state and great people."

Governor Edwards told the President  the Federal Mitigation  Guidelines  from  his administration  were key in helping fight the Virus and are helpful towards a  gradual  lifting of restrictions.

"Mr. President, I would say if you look at the plan that you had put out for 30 days to stop the (coronavirus) spread," explained Edwards "the mitigation measures that you promoted in that plan  are carried forward in the guidelines for reopening. And so it's sort of a seemless way to do it by keeping those mitigation measures in place that you need to as you reopen, especially for the vulnerable population."

Back home, Republican state lawmakers are bristling at Edwards' decision to extend Louisiana’s stay-at-home order through May 15 using the very guidelines from the Trump Administration.   They're considering the extraordinary step of trying to override Edwards' emergency decision-making about the virus. Some GOP legislators — primarily in the House — are trying to rally support for a rare legal maneuver that would allow them to possibly overturn some or all of the governor’s disaster orders and proclamations.

Louisiana currently has the 5th highest per capita rate of Covid-19 cases in the United States.
