Red River Radio Spotlight: Shreveport Symphony Orchestra honors Virginia Shehee

Aired Friday, January 22, at 11 am. Kermit Poling spoke with Music Director Michael Butterman about this weekend's Shreveport Symphony Orchestra Concert which honors Virginia Shehee, longtime supporter of the orchestra and the SSO’s Honorary Board Chair. The concert also celebrates the 65th Anniversary of the Wideman Piano Competition. Guest pianists StanislavKhristenko and TomerGewirtzman will each present a concerto and the concert concludes with the World Premiere of the Symphony No. 1 ("Shreveport Symphony") by Kermit Poling which was commissioned in memory of Virginia Shehee. Pianist StanislavKhristenko will be featured in the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Shostakovich and pianist TomerGewirtzman will be soloist in the Piano Concerto in A minor by Grieg.

On Sunday pianists Stanislav Khristenko and Tomer Gewirtzman will be joined by music director and pianist Michael Butterman and violinist Jennifer Carsillo for a concert to inaugurate the Van Cliburn Auditorium in the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum.
