PRESIDENT TRUMP VISIT - Final preparations are underway for President Donald Trump’s visit to Bossier City today as the president will attend a political rally in support of gubernatorial Republican candidate businessman Eddie Rispone who, according to polls is in a very close race with incumbent Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards. The event will take place in the CenturyLink Center in South Bossier City which is situated along the Red River. Seating capacity is reported to be just under 15,000 seats and already people have been camping out in the parking lot to be first in line. Security is going to be tight as Bossier Parish Sheriff Julien Whittington explains.
Yesterday controversy arose as a story circulated saying that Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins had advised City of Shreveport First Responders not to assist with the Trump Rally in Bossier. A quick press conference was announced late yesterday afternoon and Mayor Perkins had this to say.
Perkins issued a letter to the Shreveport City Council citing state and local ordinances concerning the city providing public support and property for political rallies and events. The mayor also invited the city council to amend the city ordinance and lobby legislators to change the state laws.
AS FOR THOSE PLANNING TO ATTEND THE EVENT –State and Local Law Enforcement agencies have issued an advisory – to be aware of traffic conditions as some streets and roads will be closed in the CenturyLink Center area to better manage increased traffic and provide security for the presidential motorcade.
