BOB GRIFFIN PASSES AWAY – A local Television personality and broadcast pioneer passed away yesterday. Bob Griffin started his television career here in Shreveport in the early 1960’s. Born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in 1934, Bob studied at the University of Arkansas and University of Nebraska before heading out to New York to give acting a shot, he appeared in an off-Broadway production before joining KSLA TV Channel 12 - in 1961. Griffin has often said he only expected to stay in Shreveport for a couple years before moving on. But he continued with KSLA working the Sports desk until 2008 and then worked for cross-town rival KTBS right up until his recent illness. Griffin had established one of the first regional childrens’ programs in the 1960’s: “Bob and His Buddies”, a show that featured cartoons and a live on-set rabbit named Wilfred and an imaginary alligator named “Cecil”. Through the years Bob produced a number of traveling shows as he loved travel.
He also appeared as a contributing producer for a TV
show I worked on back in the late 70’s early 80’s called PM MAGAZINE. Bob Griffin is survived by his wife Denise, twin daughters and 10 grandchildren. He was 85 years old.
