Democratic candidate Henry Whitehorn got 53 percent of the vote in Saturday's election in the race for Caddo Parish sheriff.

Four months after his disputed one-vote victory was tossed by the courts in the race to be the next sheriff in Caddo Parish, Henry Whitehorn won decisively in the do-over election.
Whitehorn, the Democratic candidate and career law enforcement officer received 53% of the vote in Saturday's election. He will become the parish's first Black sheriff.
Returns show he defeated Republican John Nickelson, this time by more than 4,000 votes. Whitehorn is a former head of the Louisiana State Police, former Shreveport police chief, and a retired U.S. Marshal. He won by a single vote in the November 18, 2023 election. But the courts ordered a new election after finding evidence of nearly a dozen illegal votes that were counted in the original total. That included two people who voted twice.
Sheriff-elect Whitehorn takes office on July 1.
