Excitement and anticipation are building for all the new jobs expected in the next year in the Shreveport- Bossier area. The list, of new companies and expansion of existing businesses, keeps getting longer.
Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce President Tim Magner, Ed.D., begins citing the new jobs beginning with the Amazon Fulfillment Center that will bring in a thousand jobs. Then there is the new manufacturing operation in the former GM plant in Shreveport. It involves SLB – described as a global technology company.
Dr. Magner says the SLB venture alone is expected to bring in 600 higher paying jobs. “All in all, you’re looking at almost 2,000 jobs that are going to be coming into our area. That’s a huge opportunity for our workforce. But it also means that we need to make sure that we have those workers.”

Governor John Bel Edwards described the SLB deal as one of the most significant projects to be announced in a very long time. That is no exaggeration when you consider Shreveport has the third-worst job market among 182 cities across the country, according to WalletHub.
This is actually a step up. In 2018 it was ranked as the worst job market among the 182 cities. The three factors examined for the ranking included job opportunities, employment growth, and average monthly salary.
