TX INSULIN RATE LEGISLATION - An Austin area Democrat is leading a bipartisan effort in the Texas legislature to cap the price of insulin, which has increased by 12-hundred percent over the last two decades. State Representative James Talarico, who has Type 1 diabetes, outlined his proposal Tuesday morning.
"My legislation, House Bill 40, . . . . would cap out of pocket costs for insulin at 50 dollars a month," Texas State Representative James Talarico, (D) Austin, TX
"My legislation, House Bill 40, which I am honored to joint author with Representative Price, would cap out of pocket costs for insulin at 50 dollars a month and require HHSC and the Attorney General to investigate rising insulin prices," Talarico explained.
Talarico says a super majority of Texas House members have signed onto the bill. Companion legislation in the Texas Senate also has significant support. If passed, Texas would become the 16th state to cap insulin prices.
