BOSSIER SCHOOLS REOPENING PLANS - School officials with Bossier Parish announced yesterday their plans to re-open the 2020-21 academic year. During a press conference details were given as to what Covid-19 precautions would be taken to reopen schools on August 12th. Assistant Superintendent Jason Rowland explained the reopening plans called – “Bossier Strong Start 2020” emphasizes safety for all concerned.
"The priority and the over-arching thing throughout the plan was student and staff safety," Rowland explained.
"Everything that we did, everything that we planned for, everything that we designed was based around the fact that we want our kids to be safe, we want our parent, we want our staff members to be safe."
Parents were polled in recent weeks as to what their concerns were regarding reopening during the Covid-19 pandemic. Rowland explained the plan had taken all scenarios into account while it was being developed.
"We bounced around many things that we could possibly see but we all realized the fact that we won't know how effective the plan is until we hit August 12th and actually live and execute the plan," Rowland said.
Bossier Schools will reopen using a variety of learning models. Students from pre-K through fifth grade will have face-to-face instruction five days each week. Middle School and High School students will have a blended model that has students alternating on an A/B schedule with some students attending in-person on Mondays and Wednesdays and some on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will offer a mix of in-person and at-home instruction.
Students and staff will have temperature checks, group sizes will be limited to 25, and all adults and students third grade and above will be required to wear masks. Also, an all-virtual K-12th grade model is available for families opting to keep their children at home.
