Presentation of a historic illustrated Scroll of Esther

Presentation of a historic illustrated Scroll of Esther

This event is a partnership between the North Louisiana Jewish Federation and the Noel Collection at the LSUS Library.

A full-color facsimile of an 18th-century illustrated manuscript scroll, produced by a Jewish artist-scribe and containing the text of the Book of Esther in German, is a permanent part of the Noel Collection.

The scroll is a continuous text measuring about 21 feet, and it will be on display in almost its entirety for this event.

Accompanying the scroll is a commentary volume with text in English, German, French and Hebrew.

Dr. Alexander Mikaberidze, Professor of History and the Ruth Herring Noel Endowed Chair for the Curatorship of the James Smith Noel Collection, will give a short talk on the history of this particular Esther Scroll and how it came to be part of the collection.
