Do you have a unique family tradition during the holidays? The Texas Archive of the Moving Image or TAMI wants Texans to document and share their traditions with this organization that works to preserve cultural history in Texas, according to TAMI’s Sarah Marshall.
“One of our overall goals is to help people understand that their home movies are cultural history for future generations, and just because the history is personal it doesn’t invalidate its importance,” Marshall said.
TAMI has digitized more than 22,000 films and videos since it was founded in 2002. Marshall says it has accrued thousands of holiday home videos over the years, and it wants more.
“Something as simple as stringing popcorn or dressing up for New Year’s Eve, or if you always hold an adult cocktail party -- anything. If you eat gelt celebrating Hanukkah, we want to capture all of those,” Marshall said.
TAMI wants people to upload their holiday videos to Facebook, Twitter or YouTube and tag them @TexasArchive or #Festiveflicks as part of this project. More information is at Texasarchive.org. This is the first year that TAMI has sought out holiday home videos.
