Shreveport yoga instructor offers silent yoga to children

Shreveport yoga instructor Farida Hamza will teach an after school silent yoga program at Hamilton/Caddo Branch library in Shreveport beginning Aug. 14. Hamza earned her certification to teach silent yoga in April. Silent or visual yoga is not just for people who are deaf. She says silence has therapeutic qualities as part of any yoga practice.

Shreveport kitchen store owner retires

KitchenWorks owner Karen Durham says she's surprised that all of her inventory will be sold by the time she turns 67 next week. She announced her store closure earlier this month. Durham is saying goodbye to longtime customers who stop in to inspect her mostly bare shelves. The former high school teacher went into business with her sister in 1989, inspired by her mother's passion for cooking and a kitchen stocked with high-quality pots and pans.

Mud run planned for Shreveport

Lynnette Martin of Shreveport is helping to organize the first mud run in Shreveport, put on by Mud Fears Me of Dallas. Martin says participants tackle about 20 military-style obstacles during a 5K run. It's set for Oct. 27 at High Lifter Off-Road Park in Shreveport. The early registration deadline ends today.
