Harmonia: Easter Traditions

Airs Sunday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. An hour-long program of early music, celebrating the Christian holidays around Easter. Choral music from the times and lands of the Pre-Baroque era is all about endless layers upon layers of the richest of human and vocal harmonies. From the Renaissance through the baroque, music for Holy Week and Easter Sunday will be explored, in addition to a new release by Rinaldo Alessandrini's Concerto Italiano. Hosted by Angela Mariani.

We'll hear merchant cries from long-ago London, witness the marriage of music and ritual, and dine at Johann Hermann Schein's musical Banquet. For dessert: our featured release Amor Vincit Omnia or "Love Conquers All."

Airs Wednesday, July 4 at 12:00 noon. The Ursuline Manuscript: Music from 18th-century New Orleans
A program of early music, celebrating the 4th of July with music from 18th-century New Orleans. We'll celebrate the Fourth of July on Harmonia with a trip to the Deep South. The French ensemble Le Concert Lorrain will perform excerpts from the Ursuline Manuscript, the sole-surviving collection of music from 18th-century New Orleans. A release of Michel Blavet's flute music will also be heard. Hosted by Angela Mariani.
