Children's dental health program re-launches in Shreveport

Shreveport-based Willis-Knighton Health System is re-launching its Children’s Dental Services program that gives uninsured children access to a dentist, even though their family can’t pay for the visit. Dozens of Shreveport-Bossier dentists are associated with the program. Bonnie Hughes oversees the program for Willis-Knighton. She says the hospital’s role is to get children enrolled, and then schedule them with a participating dentist whose practice is near their home.

Willis-Knighton expands its assisted living community

The Willis-Knighton Health System has completed a $3.9 million assisted living expansion. The hospital system's Savannah at The Oaks community will nearly double in size to 52 apartments. Executive manager Janice Latvala says it fills a gap between independent living and a nursing home. She says the new units are nearly all leased, and she began taking contracts on them five months ago.
