Museum of East Texas extends rock 'n' roll memorabilia exhibit

The Museum of East Texas in Lufkin has turned into a mini Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the premiere of the Robert Poland Collection. The Lufkin businessman has collected musical memorabilia for nearly 60 years. Poland owns buildings in Lufkin that house thousands of autographed records, guitars and other instruments from legendary musicians who span generations – from Muddy Waters to Bruce Springsteen. Over time, Poland said he’s developed a close network of dealers around the country, never once entertaining eBay to make purchases.

Louisiana's digital encyclopedia gives QR codes to hundreds of artist entries

The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has added a new feature to its expanding digital encyclopedia of Louisiana history and culture -- KnowLA. The LEH is distributing downloadable QR codes to museums statewide. The barcode can be printed and mounted alongside artwork.

Shreveport museum presents European masterpieces in Kasten Collection

Paintings that are part of the Kasten Art Collection go on display today at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport. The Kasten Family of South Carolina has amassed works by British and European painters completed between the 1860s and 1920s. The Norton’s Emily Young said 32 pieces are on display in two galleries. It’s the second stop of a nationwide tour. She says the works – many impressionistic – have a common trait: paintings within paintings.

Festival showcases Shreveport's Indian community

The culture of India will take center stage on Saturday, April 27, for the ASEANA Foundation’s Spring Festival. In its sixth year, the festival draws hundreds of people to downtown Shreveport. The event will highlight traditional Indian cuisine and folk dances. ASEANA Foundation board president Lumen Tindell said a group of volunteers took a once abandoned garden and turned it into a treasured inner city green space, this year influenced by the Asian subcontinent.
